80’s Fancy Dress

by FancyDressGuru

Are you going to a 1980’s fancy dress party? It’s such a great decade for 80’s fancy dress costumes and we have lots of ideas here to share with you. Your outfit could be based on any 80’s pop star from Madonna to Michael Jackson to Tina Turner to the great 80’s Adam Ant or an icon like Freddie Mercury. Then you have the many classic 80’s TV shows such as Miami Vice, Magnum P.I, and the infamous A-Team.

Guys you can dress up as everyone’s favourite Mr T with a fantastic Eighties Mr T Bling Set, including a Mr T Wig with side burns and gold looking jewellery set comprising of dollar sign watch, dollar sign necklace, dollar sign ring and chunky bracelet, or you can go as the cool Crockett or Tubbs from cult TV series Miami Vice in an officially licensed retro Miami Vice costume which includes a white suit, a pink t-shirt, PVC badge and retro sunglasses. Finish off the look with a shoulder holster and toy gun.

Now some 80’s fancy dress ideas for the girls.

Probably one of the most popular and easiest themes to follow is Madonna as she had so many different styles and outfits throughout the eighties, but a classic one is of course a Material Girl outfit. Wear a black halter neck knee length dress with signature lace fingerless gloves and a bow in your hair, accessorise with an eighties pop star wig, a glitter microphone and heavy make up.

Another recognizable Madonna look is a white bride dress for that Like A Virgin outfit, you can either buy one from a charity shop and make your own costume, or you can get a cheeky Sexy Virgin Bride version with very short skirt and lace white veil. To add to any Madonna inspired costume wear lace fingerless gloves, bangles, pearl beads, bows, fishnet tights or stockings and lots of make up with red lipstick.

Other 80’s fancy dress clothes for women include ra-ra skirts, leg warmers, hot pants – think roller girl or Fame – anything lacy, bangles and big hair. You can wear a general 80’s fancy dress costume that isn’t based on any character in particular as the eighties look is so easy to achieve and so recognized as a decade of awful fashions!

Some more 80’s fancy dress outfits for men include characters from 80’s films with weird and wacky costumes such as Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, and even 80’s cartoon characters such as Bananaman, Danger Mouse, Penfold or a Super Hero Mutant Ninja Turtle costume.

If you’re still stuck for ideas you can always fall back on the 80’s glam rock style with lots of lycra, PVC, leopard print and a Tina Turner or Rod Stewart style wig.
