50’s Fancy Dress

by FancyDressGuru

Are you looking for 50’s fancy dress costumes? There are plenty out there to buy or you can put one together yourself with a little thought and imagination but to help you get started we have a few ideas for the Rock n Roll era.

One of the easiest 50’s style fancy dress themes to base your costume around is the film Grease so for the girls you could become cute, innocent Sandy in a full skirt, flat pumps and a blonde bobbed wig or you could transform into wild, sexy Sandra Dee in tight PVC trousers, killer heels, a figure hugging black top and bright red lipstick. If there are a gang of you why not team up as the Pink Ladies as you get can great Pink Lady jackets and perfect fifties style accessories such as colourful neck scarves, fifties style jeweled sunglasses and clip-on record shaped fifties earrings.

Boys you could be Danny Zuko in a simple black leather jacket and jeans but if you haven’t got the hair to style into quiff invest in a fancy dress black wig. If you want to really push the boat out get a special T-birds jacket and crepe shoes.

Another more general idea for boys’ 50’s fancy dress outfits is to be a Teddy Boy complete with stick on sideburns and a rocker wig. You can buy fantastic Teddy Boy jackets in whatever colour you prefer teamed with a boot lace tie or you can even be the King of Rock n Roll himself – Elvis. There are some fabulous Elvis costumes available to really get into the part, rhinestones and all! And don’t forget an Elvis wig and gold sunglasses and you can even get a hairy chest wig, an inflatable rock guitar or a glitter microphone to finish off the 50s style look.

Other 1950’s fancy dress ideas for girls include film stars such as Marilyn Monroe – white dress and blonde wig with red lipstick, Cheer Leader chic – short skirt with pom poms, Ice Cream Parlour waitresses and Soda Pop girls - bowling alley outfits complete with bowling bags, Capri pants and flat pumps. Think polka dots, white ruffle lace top bobby socks, poodle skirts, wide belted waists, headbands and full under skirts. Or go the sexy waitress costume way, or even the late 50’s beatnik route dressing in all black including a slim fitting pencil skirt.
